UKSSB Secretary Job Description

The Secretary has both day-to-day and strategic responsibility for maintaining the business continuity of the Board and it’s functions. The Secretary needs to be a well-organised professional who can ensure that the minutes prepared in a satisfactory way and they can then be presented to the Board as required by the Constitution. This takes between one and two hours a week. Every month, the e-bulletin must be prepared collated and published in collaboration with the Executive Assistant – a task that takes two to four hours. The Secretary works to ensure that the Association’s website is up-to-date, and accurately displays information and details of society proceedings. The Secretary has a close working relationship with the Board’s event sub-committee to deliver the biennial conference BritSpine. The Secretary is part of the three-person executive team of the UKSSB along with the Chair and Treasurer, and as a result has voting rights at Board meetings. This role also covers other aspects as required when they arise, and is not limited to the above.


Candidate Specification

Essential

• Member of one of the UKSSB constituent societies

• Previous society executive experience

• Proven track record of organisational delivery of projects and documents

• Excellent organisational and communication skills

• Ability to work with UKSSB partners across a number of sectors

• Willingness to commit time on a regular basis for delivery of agreed objectives (average three hours per week, one day every six months for face-to-face meetings and up to a further three evenings per year for Board conference calls)


Desirable

• Previous scientific or similar meeting organisation experience

• Previous secretarial experience


Duration of Appointment: 3 years (extendable for a further 3 years)

Position Start Date: August 2023 (subject to negotiation and a period of shadowing of current postholder)
